Custom Builds:

We can build many different Subaru engines to a variety of different specifications: 2.3L open deck, 2.4L closed deck, 2.7L semi-closed. If you are interested in a custom build you will need to get in contact with our sales and advising team to talk about what output goals and application you have in mind.

For those wanting a stronger bottom end for their Subaru, we offer staged short block builds for all Subaru Turbocharged applications.

The factory EJ205/7 and EJ255/7 engines have many inherited weaknesses within their bottom-end assemblies. These weaknesses lead to premature engine failure. The two that we see the most are piston ring-land breakage and rod bearing failure. We have taken steps to remedy these issues within our builds through a multi-step process of part upgrades and tolerance adjustment.

We start by getting rid of the junk. The factory cast pistons and factory connecting rods are the first to go. By installing forged pistons we eliminate the ring-land failure that Subaru cast pistons are prone to experiencing. In addition to the forged pistons we slightly tighten up the piston-to-wall clearance to reduce piston slap. Piston ring gap is set according to the vehicle’s application: Street, autocross, track days, race. ¬†Second, we upgrade the main and rod bearings to a much higher quality racing bearing. The upgraded rod bearings are installed with forged rods and ARP fasteners. All oil clearances are checked and set. For the applications that we can run the factory 79mm STi crankshaft we utilize a 11+ STi Heat Treated Crankshaft. The machined and resurfaced engine case halves are assembled with factory o-rings and sealant. Prior to final assembly every specification is checked and rechecked buy our highly trained technicians in a clean, final assembly room.

Our short blocks are hand built with pride by technicians. Each one is marked with a serial number before being installed or shipped to you.

All of our short blocks come with a 12 month/12,000 mile warranty when installed by us.*
